Valentine's Day is a fun holiday for kids.

Valentine's Day is a fun holiday for kids and a great way to show love for those around you. There are a lot of fun Valentine's Day activities that you and your kids can do together.

A great Valentine's Day activity for kids is baking heart-shaped cookies or cakes. You can use cookie cutters in the shape of hearts or get creative by using cookie dough and cutting out the shapes yourself. Decorating these treats with colourful sprinkles, icing, and other decorations makes them even more special. Also, early readers can be shown how to read a cook book and how to follow along with the instructions.

You can also plan a special Valentine's Day lunch or dinner with your family. Serve up some festive treats like pink cupcakes and let your kids help decorate them with themed sprinkles and little hearts! For dinner, whip up some delicious recipes like heart-shaped pizzas or red velvet pancakes.

Finally, no Valentine's Day celebration would be complete without reading a great holiday themed book! One of my favorites for this day is,  “Love is” by Claire Keane. A sweet tail of a little girl and her duckling.

A few other sweet Valentine's Day reads for the kiddies:

The Love Letter by Anika Aldamuy Denise-Hedgehog, Bunny, and Squirrel find a love letter one day. But who sent it?

I've Loved You Since Forever Board Book by Hoda Kotb- a poetic testament to the timeless love felt between parent and child.

Snowy Valentine by David Petersen- a little bunny steps out to find a special gift.

Whatever your favorite holiday book is I know curling up and reading to the kids is creating a sweet lasting memory you will cherish forever.

A card exchange can add to the Valentine's Day fun.

A card exchange is a great way to add some extra fun to Valentine's Day for kids. It's also a great way to get them involved in reading and writing.

Here are some tips for organizing a card exchange with your homeschool group:

1. If you can find a location where everyone can meet and craft, kids can make decorated envelopes or cereal boxes to be mail boxes.

2. Kids can make their friends special Valentine's cards for the day of the exchange.

3. Be sure to discuss with the other participating families if candy is allowed or not. If it is, make sure to find out if anyone has allergies and to email everyone so they are all aware ahead of time.

4. Have a few games planned for the event, like a bean bag toss, a game of tag with your Valentine, or other fun game ideas.

5. And of course, while planning, find out what day and time work best for all the participating families.

If you don't have a local homeschool group to organize a get together with, you can have a sweet Valentine's occasion right in your own classroom. Add some fun games into the themed learning like blow the paper heart race with a straw or a timed conversation heart pick up with chopsticks. If your kids are smaller, a spoon race with conversation hearts or other candy would be fun as well.

How You Can Add Valentine's Day Activities to Your Homeschool Day

Adding some Valentine's Day activities into your homeschool day is a great way to celebrate the holiday and teaches your children not only about the origin of the day but also how to make learning fun. Here are some ideas for how you can add some Valentine's Day fun to your homeschool routine:

- Have a special Valentine's Day breakfast or snack time with festive foods and drinks. Make heart shaped pancakes with pink milk. For a snack, you can have strawberries dipped in chocolate sauce or carob if you don't want to use chocolate.

- Decorate the house or classroom with Valentine's Day themed decorations. Hang up streamers and put out some flowers or art the kids made.

- Read stories about love and friendship during story time. There are many great children's books that focus on these themes around Valentine's Day.

- Do some arts and crafts projects related to Valentine's Day. Make paper hearts, string beads into necklaces, or decorate picture frames.

- Learn the history of St. Valentine and discuss
