You can use cookie cutters in the shape of hearts or get creative by using cookie dough and cutting out the shapes yourself. Decorating these treats with colourful sprinkles, icing, and other decorations makes them even more special. Also, early readers can be shown how to read a cook book and how to follow along with the instructions.

You can also plan a special Valentine's Day lunch or dinner with your family. Serve up some festive treats like pink cupcakes and let your kids help decorate them with themed sprinkles and little hearts! For dinner, whip up some delicious recipes like heart-shaped pizzas or red velvet pancakes.

Finally, no Valentine's Day celebration would be complete without reading a great holiday themed book! One of my favorites for this day is,  “Love is” by Claire Keane. A sweet tail of a little girl and her duckling.

Here are some tips for organizing a card exchange with your homeschool group:

1. If you can find a location where everyone can meet and craft, kids can make decorated envelopes or cereal boxes to be mail boxes.

2. Kids can make their friends special Valentine's cards for the day of the exchange.

3. Be sure to discuss with the other participating families if candy is allowed or not. If it is, make sure to find out if anyone has allergies and to email everyone so they are all aware ahead of time.

4. Have a few games planned for the event, like a bean bag toss, a game of tag with your Valentine, or other fun game ideas.

5. And of course, while planning, find out what day and time work best for all the participating families.
